Now that we’re done pretending to be thankful, we can do what we really want: buy things that will enrich our lives in superficial ways. Not that I’m against giving gifts, I think the problem lies with the attitude behind the rampant commercialization of Christmas (the idea that things bring happiness and togetherness).
